My observations in small school districts in Texas:
When considering the integration of technology into the K-12 curriculum, often teachers view technology as just another thing to teach. Most current teachers have very little training on the integration of technology and do not view technology as a tool for teaching (like a calculator, overhead projector, video... ).
If we expect our K-12 educators to integrate technology into the curriculum we are going to need to support this integration with strategic instructional technology plans at the district level. We will have to set goals for proficiency achievement for all educators and provide training for all educators to achieve those goals.
In addition, we need to begin working collaboratively within the district (grade level) to develop lessons that incorporate technology. The team planning at most schools is superior, but rarely do the lessons involve a technology component. It is time to make an official paradigm shift!!
